Enkeni

Enkeni was established in 2015, continuing a long-standing family tradition of winemaking, evidenced by the use of approximately 200-year-old Qvevris. The cellar is situated in the village of Akhalterjola in the Terjola district.
The vineyards, where Tsitska, Tsolikouri, Dzelshavi, and White Kapistoni grape varieties are grown, are maintained using traditional methods and contact spraying solutions. The first bottled wine was the 2015 harvest of Tsitska-Tsolikouri, fermented and aged in glass containers using European techniques.
The name "Enkeni" carries dual symbolic meanings. It originates from the old Georgian word "Enkenistve," referring to September, the month when the harvest begins in most regions of Georgia, highlighting the connection between the harvest and September. Additionally, "Enkeni" relates to the village of Akhalterjola's forgotten tradition. Annually, on September 26, the village celebrated "Enkenoba," marking the start of the harvest and the completion of major autumn tasks, including gathering and storing crops. This festival, with its spiritual significance, emphasizes renewal, as "Enkeni" means renewal etymologically.
