It plays a pivotal role as one half of the iconic semi-sweet wine Khvanchkara, which is celebrated for its rich history and unique flavor profile. Name
Aleksandrouli (ალექსანდროული in Georgian) has undergone several name changes throughout its history, but its current name is believed to have originated from the dedication to the royal figure Aleksandre, who played a pioneering role in popularizing the semi-sweet style of this variety.
Viticulture
Aleksandrouli, despite its popularity, is known for its relatively low-yielding nature. It typically forms medium-sized bunches containing berries of medium size, ranging from round to sometimes oval in shape. The grape demonstrates a moderate resistance to mildew, making it relatively resilient in vineyard management practices. While it can thrive in various soil types, Aleksandrouli reaches its full potential on calcareous and clay-rich soils, where it produces wines of exceptional quality.
