Winery Zodi was founded in 2019 in the village of Zodi, Chiatura, Upper Imereti. The decision to establish the winery came from a longstanding tradition of making wine in the Imeretian manner, which husband and wife, Giga and Nino, decided to transform into a professional endeavor. Giga serves as the winemaker, skillfully blending old traditions with modern techniques, while Nino, a trained taster, evaluates Giga's wines to ensure they meet the highest quality. Together, they focus exclusively on producing wines from Imeretian grapes, using the Imeretian method of fermentation, which involves up to 30% skin contact in Qvevri.
Located in Chiatura, the region features a fairly humid maritime subtropical climate, characterized by moderately cold winters and relatively dry, hot summers. The soils of Imereti are primarily medium and thin-thickness forest loamy and loamy alluvial types, contributing to the unique qualities of their wines. Winery Zodi combines tradition, family, and terroir to craft distinctive wines that truly express the character of Upper Imereti.
