Papunas Marani is a family-operated winery in Kvareli, known for its traditional Qvevri wine production. Established in 2016, the winery is based on a historical cellar built in 1953. This cellar houses 12 Qvevris of various sizes with a total capacity of 10 tons, used exclusively for winemaking. Covering 4.5 hectares in the Kvareli micro zone, the vineyards produce high-quality wines that have gained popularity in Georgia over the past three years.
The winery's journey began with the 2016 vintage Saperavi and Rkatsiteli, which quickly garnered acclaim, winning awards at national and international competitions. The winemaking process involves fermenting grapes in Qvevris for four months, followed by aging in oak barrels for up to a year, ensuring a unique and refined flavor profile. Papunas Marani continues to produce limited quantities of wine, maintaining its commitment to quality.
