Chateau Ateni Their journey began in 2010 with the planting of their first vineyard, and by 2015, they had their first good harvest. In 2016, they bottled their first wine and opened a tasting cellar, offering vineyard tours, explanations of the wine production process, tastings, traditional Georgian cuisine, and masterclasses. The vineyard, ideally located 400 meters from the cellar, had a history dating back to the Soviet era but had been neglected and abandoned.
Ateni stands out as the only registered sparkling wine PDO in Georgia, with this producer being the sole maker of sparkling wine there. The sparkling "Atenuri" was merely a concept for over 30 years until it was revived in 2019. Ateni holds historical significance as the birthplace of Georgian sparkling wine, with production methods known since the 11th century. Ancestors used to ferment wine in Qvevris, creating a fizzy, bubbly drink that Georgian kings loved, earning it the title "Wine of Kings" by historian Vakhushti Bagrationi.
