Cabernet Sauvignon
Share
Cabernet Sauvignon an iconic French variety, thrives in Kakheti, retaining its original parameters while uniquely expressing itself in Georgian soil.
Name/Origin
A world-renowned son of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc, gained popularity in Bordeaux.
Viticulture
In Kakheti, Cabernet Sauvignon benefits from the region's diverse climatic conditions, which range from humid subtropics to continental climates. The vineyards, often located at altitudes between 250 and 800 meters, receive influences from both the dry air of the Caspian Sea and the moist air masses from the Black Sea. This combination helps in developing complex flavor profiles and maintaining balanced acidity in the grapes.
Wine styles
Cabernet Sauvignon is frequently blended with native Georgian varieties such as Saperavi, enhancing the complexity and depth of the resulting wines. These blends bring together the best of both worlds.
-
Red wine. A great blending partner for Saperavi and a fantastic mono-varietal grape, Cabernet Sauvignon works well on both the right and left banks of the Saperavi region. It thrives on limestone and volcanic soils, giving two radically different expressions.
-
Teliani PDO. A designated appellation for Cabernet Sauvignon, Teliani benefits from the region's diverse terroir, producing wines with rich flavors and balanced acidity. Known for their deep color and robust structure, these wines often exhibit notes of blackcurrant, blackberry, and subtle spice, showcasing a unique expression of this classic variety in Georgian soil.
