Berdia Berishvili began his wine career as an employee of the wineries Askaneli Brothers and Chateau Tigis, but he learned to make and understand wine much earlier while helping his father produce wine in Racha, the native land of the Berishvili family. Berishvili's current main project, the winery Barbale, was founded in 2014.
The town of Bolnisi, home to Barbale's winery and vineyards, was not chosen by chance. From the ancient winemaking practices of the Kartli people to the European influence of the German settlers, Bolnisi is a place where old and new worlds collide, creating a truly unique winemaking experience. And Barbale wines are a testament to the rich and diverse heritage of Bolnisi. In each bottle, one can find the echoes of ancient Georgian traditions, the influence of European winemaking techniques, and the innovative spirit of Berdia Berishvili himself. The name "Barbale" pays homage to the ancient Georgian goddess of the sun and life, while the laconic European label reflects the winery's commitment to quality and modernity.
Berdia Berishvili is not afraid to take risks: he constantly experiments with new grape varieties, winemaking techniques, and ageing methods. This willingness to experiment has led to the creation of a wide range of wines and spirits. And even though Berdia's wines constantly push the boundaries, they never sacrifice quality.
