Sviri

Sviri is a white wine produced in the Sviri micro-zone, situated on the left bank of the Kvirila River in Outer Imereti. This region encompasses the villages of Pirveli Sviri, Meore Sviri, and the administrative borders of Rodinauli, located at an average altitude of 220 meters above sea level. Sviri wines are crafted from the grape varieties Tsolikouri, Tsitska, and Krakhuna.

History

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for Sviri was registered on December 10, 2007. Winemaking in the Sviri region has ancient roots, and the wine produced here has long been recognized for its quality. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Sviri wines were marketed by several local producers, and the tradition of winemaking has continued to evolve over the years.

Viticulture

Vineyards in the Sviri micro-zone are situated on diverse soils, including alluvial and deluvial varieties. The primary grape varieties used for Sviri wine are Tsolikouri, Tsitska, and Krakhuna. The grapes must be harvested with a minimum sugar content of 19%, and the winemaking process, including fermentation in Qvevri, must take place within the micro-zone. Bottling can occur throughout Georgia, adhering to strict regulations to ensure the wine's quality and authenticity.

Tasting Notes

Sviri wines are known for their refreshing and floral character, with bright citrus notes of lime and lemon. The palate is creamy and soft, balanced by high acidity, which adds a lively freshness. Aromas of fresh yellow and green fruits complement the vibrant and well-balanced flavor profile, creating a refined and pleasant wine experience.

Interesting Facts
